A diverse team

The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing promotes diversity and equal opportunity in employment and is committed to a more diverse workforce. We’ll continue to attract the most capable people to build an exceptional, diverse and culturally safe workforce. We are building an inclusive workplace that embraces respect, diversity and difference. All jobs can be worked flexibly and we actively encourage job applications from Aboriginal people, people living with disability, LGBTI and people from varied cultural backgrounds.

The Aboriginal Workforce Strategy 2021–2026 commits us to increasing Aboriginal employee numbers to 2% of the total workforce and to improving career pathways so more of our Aboriginal workforce is empowered to take on senior leadership roles now and into the future. The Aboriginal Workforce Strategy sets our goal to become the employer of choice for Aboriginal people and we are committed to supporting recruitment, retention, and the cultural safety of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.

We are committed towards Aboriginal Employment by building our Aboriginal workforce and ensure services are culturally safe and responsive. We have a dedicated Aboriginal Employment Team to support Aboriginal staff and provide a range of other benefits. Our Aboriginal Staff Support Network is unique to DFFH and provides Aboriginal employees an environment to share their experiences, support for each other, participate in professional development and contribute to the policy and services of DFFH.

The Aboriginal Diversity and Inclusion unit can support you by:

  • assessing and supporting to bridge qualification gaps
  • recruitment support, interview preparation
  • mentoring and providing confidential and culturally safe assistance
  • access to our Aboriginal Staff Network and yearly conference
  • professional development opportunities

If you are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicant, or if you have a disability and require advice and support with the recruitment process, please contact our Diversity Unit on aboriginaldiversityinclusion@dffh.vic.gov.au
